Distillation is a very effective process for concentration of heavy metals and ionic contaminants. However, the ability of steam to transport micro droplets greatly reduces this efficiency. By using RASIRC steam purification, micro droplets are eliminated so water vapor can be extracted while ionic impurities are left behind.
Reductions of over three orders of magnitude can be achieved with an associated reduction in hazardous waste volume. One part per million (1 ppm) can be reduced to less than one part per billion (1 ppb) and 1 ppb can be reduced to less than one part per trillion (1 ppt) for most metals.
