RASIRC RainMaker Humidification System Chosen as MicroNano Innovative Product Award Winner for 2007

San Diego, Calif. – September 11, 2007 – RASIRC™, the steam purification company, announces that its RainMaker Humidification System (RHS) was selected by the editors of R&D Magazine and MICRO/NANO newsletter as one of the most innovative products of 2007 in their Inaugural MICRO/NANO 25 Competition.  RASIRC’s RHS is the first and only system to deliver precise amounts of ultra pure water vapor and simultaneously remove contaminants and dissolved gases.  According to MICRO/NANO, technologies that are revealed to be the most innovative, the most groundbreaking, and those having the largest impact on a specific industry or society in general are selected for this award.

Precise control of water vapor is critical for the manufacture of carbon nanotubes, photovoltaics, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductors.  The RainMaker Humidification System is a self-contained closed loop system for adding between 1 sccm (0.0008 grams/minute) and 1000 sccm (0.8 grams/minute) of water vapor into a carrier gas stream.  It can humidify inert, corrosive, and flammable gases, such as hydrogen and oxygen, at a wide range of flow rates.  The system can deliver into atmosphere as well as vacuum process pressures to enable CVD, ALD, and some plasma processes.

The heart of the RHS is a non-porous membrane that prevents particles, micro-droplets, volatile gases, and ionic species from being transferred to the carrier gas and ensures only water vapor is added.

“The key to the RASIRC technology is that we can precisely deliver micrograms of water vapor that is free of those contaminants we normally associate with liquid water.  This precise control will enable fabrication of carbon nanotubes that is not possible any other way,” explained RASIRC founder and president Jeffrey Spiegelman.  “This unique design delivers water vapor into both atmospheric and vacuum process which eliminates many other options for delivery of water vapor. Being the recipient of the prestigious MICRO/NANO Award is quite an honor and a testament to this technology.”

The MICRO/NANO 25 Competition is judged by an independent panel of experts and the editors of the MICRO/NANO newsletter.  Selections are based on the uniqueness of the technology, the innovation involved in its development, the potential value the technology provides to an industry or society, the performance that the technology exemplifies, the creation of new intellectual property, and a comparison to existing technologies.

R&D and its MICRO/NANO newsletter are published by Advantage Media.  They are distributed to over 80,000 people in the applied research and development industries.
