Wringer

Transfer water vapor for drying gases into vacuum or dryer gas

Many industries need to remove water vapor from gases. RASIRC provides technology to dry gases in a safe, pure and economical manner.

Product Overview

The Wringer incorporates a non-porous membrane, Nafion®, that has a very rapid diffusion rate for water vapor. At the same time, the membrane has a high rejection rate for most other molecular compounds. The process gas flows through the inner tube and a vacuum or dry gas is applied to outer the shell.

Operation couldn’t be simpler. The process gas to be dried runs through the inner internal membrane with a purge flow on the shell. Wringer can be used with either a vacuum or atmosphere on the shell.

For higher vapor transfer rate, RASIRC’s revolutionary design allows scale up of membrane assemblies without having to worry about the temperature and contamination limitations from a potting compound.

Benefits of Wringer

  • Fast dry-down times—Very thin membrane allows fast dry down times and lower ultimate values for a given length of material.
  • Clean product—Focus on contamination control assures a cleaner end product to the customer.
  • Minimal contamination sources—Innovative assembly techniques minimize sources of contamination.
  • No moving parts.
  • Non-porous—can be used with hydrogen and corrosive gases.
  • Epoxy free—high purity construction that works even at high temperature.

Wringer Applications

  • Analytical Sampling
  • Gas Chromatograph
  • Protecting air tools
  • Gas drying
  • Hydrogen Generators
  • Fuel Cells

Alternative Technologies

  • Hollow fiber contactors—Wringer allows selective transfer of water vapor and prevents free flow of other dissolved gases and microparticulates. Its fluoropolymer makeup allows high temperature operation, which lets higher levels of water vapor be transferred. It also assures purity of gas steam and minimizes outgassing of the membrane and corrosion from aggressive process gases. Wringer can be used with hydrogen with minimal hydrogen crossover. Overall, Wringer has a higher transfer rate per given gas flow.
  • Gas Purifiers —Gas purifiers have very limited life. They cannot be used to dry high water loads from gases without having to be replaced frequently. Their performance degrades as they approach saturation. This leads to variable performance. When exposed to high challenges, they also generate high operating costs and frequent service due to change out.
